About White County
White County, Georgia’s 123rd county, was carved out of Habersham County by an act of the state legislature in 1857. And named after David White, a legislator from Newton County who helped pass the bill that created White county. White County, covering 242 square miles, is located in the Upper Chattahoochee River on the Appalachian Mountain chain’s eastern flank, approximately eighty miles northeast of Atlanta. So you’re not too far from the city, but you’re also not too close.
With over 20 area waterfalls, 7 wineries, 3 State Parks, upscale resorts, hotels, beautiful, lush mountains, lakes, an abundance of hiking trails, and several dining spots, there’s just so much to enjoy here. Some tourist sites in White County include the Chattahoochee National Forest; Helen Tubing & Waterpark; Raven Cliff Falls & Trailhead; Unicoi State Park & Lodge; Dukes Creek Falls; and the Anna Ruby Falls, located near Unicoi State Park (in bavarian alpine village Helen, – might remove this) to name a few.
White County is also home to the Bavarian Alpine village of Helen, known for its vineyards and Bavarian-style buildings complete with cobblestone streets. The many important details involved in the process of owning a home can seem daunting.
